1. WHAT NOTTURA AI DOES

NOTTURA AI is a Chrome extension with a single purpose: capturing audio from browser tab video lessons and converting that audio into structured, readable PDF notes using AI transcription and summarization. The extension does not track users, inject ads, or modify web page content.

2. PERMISSIONS AND WHY THEY ARE NEEDED

tabCapture

Used to capture the audio stream from the active browser tab. This is the core function of the extension. Audio is captured only when the user explicitly clicks the Record button. Capture stops immediately when the user clicks Stop. No video, screen content, or microphone is captured — only tab audio.

activeTab

Used solely to read the title of the current tab so the generated PDF can be named after the video lesson. No other tab data is accessed.

storage

Used to save the user's API key locally in chrome.storage.local so they do not need to re-enter it every time the popup opens. No personal data beyond the API key is stored.

Host permission — api.notturaai.xyz

The extension communicates exclusively with https://api.notturaai.xyz, which is the NOTTURA AI backend. This is required to send the recorded audio for transcription and receive the generated PDF. No other hosts are contacted.

Remote code / backend processing

Audio data is sent to the NOTTURA AI backend for processing (transcription via Groq Whisper and note structuring via Claude AI). This is necessary because AI transcription and summarization require server-side computation. The audio is processed and immediately discarded — it is not stored or used for any other purpose.

3. DATA WE COLLECT

  • Email address — used to identify your account and deliver your API key.
  • API key — used to authenticate requests from the extension.
  • Usage minutes — tracked to enforce plan limits.
  • Audio recordings — sent to our backend for processing and immediately discarded. Not stored.

4. DATA WE DO NOT COLLECT

  • Browsing history
  • Web page content or screenshots
  • Microphone input
  • Any data from pages you visit

5. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

  • Groq — used for audio transcription (Whisper model). Audio is not retained by Groq beyond the API call.
  • Anthropic — used for AI note structuring (Claude model). Text is not retained beyond the API call.
  • Stripe — used for payment processing. NOTTURA AI does not store payment card data.
